Overview
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a 2024 supernatural horror comedy film directed by Tim Burton, serving as a sequel to the 1988 film Beetlejuice. The film stars Michael Keaton returning as the titular "bio-exorcist" Betelgeuse, Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, and Catherine O'Hara as Delia Deetz. The film is set 36 years after the original. Lydia Deetz is now a successful television host of a paranormal reality show, "Ghost House." She is a widow, raising a teenage daughter, Astrid (Jenna Ortega). Betelgeuse has been waiting 36 years for Lydia to say his name three times, which will allow him to marry her. He is still a disgusting, sleazy, and hilarious ghost. The film also features Delia, who is now an artist, and a new character, Wolf Jackson (Willem Dafoe), a dead B-movie actor who is now a detective in the afterlife. The film is a return to Burton's signature style: gothic, whimsical, and darkly humorous. The stop-motion effects are practical, the sets are elaborate, and the musical numbers are catchy. The film ends with Lydia and Betelgeuse kissing, but Lydia does not say his name a third time. She escapes, and Betelgeuse is eaten by a sandworm.
