Bridesmaids
Overview
Bridesmaids is a 2011 comedy film directed by Paul Feig, written by Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo. The film stars Kristen Wiig as Annie, a single, struggling pastry chef who is asked to be the maid of honor at her best friend Lillian's (Maya Rudolph) wedding. She is jealous of another bridesmaid, the wealthy, perfect Helen (Rose Byrne), and she struggles with her own insecurities. The film is a hilarious, raunchy, and surprisingly emotional look at female friendship. It was a massive critical and commercial success, earning over $288 million on a $32 million budget. It was nominated for two Academy Awards, including Best Supporting Actress for Melissa McCarthy. The film is widely considered one of the best comedies of the 2010s and a landmark film for female-driven comedy. It proved that women could be just as funny, just as raunchy, and just as successful as men in the genre. The film features a memorable scene where the bridesmaids get food poisoning at a bridal shop.
