The Witcher Season 1
Overview
The Witcher is a 2019 fantasy drama television series created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich for Netflix, based on the book series by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The first season stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, a solitary, mutated monster hunter known as a Witcher. The first season is set on a fictional continent known as "The Continent," a medieval-inspired world filled with magic, monsters, and political intrigue. The first season has a complex, non-linear timeline, jumping between three different timelines that eventually converge. The other main characters are Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra), a powerful sorceress who was born with a hunchback and was sold by her father, and Ciri (Freya Allan), a young princess of the fallen kingdom of Cintra who has powerful magical abilities. Geralt and Ciri are bound by "the Law of Surprise" — a Witcher tradition where a man can claim as payment something he has but does not know. The first season ends with Geralt and Ciri finally meeting. The Witcher was a massive success for Netflix, and it has spawned multiple spin-offs.
