Overview

The Equalizer 3 is a 2023 action thriller film directed by Antoine Fuqua, the third and final installment in the Equalizer trilogy starring Denzel Washington as Robert McCall, a retired intelligence officer who uses his skills to help those who cannot help themselves. The film is set in Southern Italy, where McCall has moved to escape his past. He is living a quiet life, working at a small shop and befriending the locals. He discovers that his new friends are being terrorized by the local mafia, the Camorra. McCall is a man of few words and precise, brutal violence. He dispatches the Camorra members with his signature efficiency, using whatever is at hand: a corkscrew, a knife, a gun. The film is a meditation on aging, redemption, and the possibility of finding peace. McCall is older, slower, but still deadly. The film ends with McCall killing the head of the Camorra and leaving the town, a satisfied man. The film was a commercial success, earning over $190 million on a $70 million budget. It was praised for Denzel Washington's performance and for the beautiful Italian setting. The film is a fitting conclusion to the trilogy.
