Overview
The Exorcist: Believer is a 2023 supernatural horror film directed by David Gordon Green, the sixth film in The Exorcist franchise. The film is a direct sequel to the 1973 film The Exorcist, ignoring the other sequels. The film follows Victor Fielding (Leslie Odom Jr.), a single father whose daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett), and her friend, Katherine (Olivia Marcum), disappear in the woods. They return three days later with no memory of what happened. They begin to exhibit signs of demonic possession. Victor seeks help from Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn), the mother of the possessed girl from the original film. The film is a reboot of the franchise, and it tries to recapture the atmosphere and scares of the original. It was a commercial success, but it was panned by critics for its lack of originality and its reliance on jump scares.
