Far and Away
Overview
Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman sail from Irish poverty to the Oklahoma Land Rush in this big, old-fashioned romantic epic from Ron Howard. It's swoony and sweeping — ocean crossings, street fights, and a final horse race for a patch of dirt that actually gets your pulse up. Critics sniffed at it in '92, but there's real charm in its earnestness. Western-romance lovers should seek it out; cynics should skip it.
