Gladiator
Overview
Are you not entertained? You will be. Russell Crowe is Maximus, a Roman general betrayed by a jealous emperor's son and sold into slavery, who claws his way through the gladiator pits toward revenge. Ridley Scott films ancient Rome like it actually smelled of sweat and dust, and Joaquin Phoenix makes Commodus one of cinema's great weasels. The arena scenes still hit hard. A swords-and-sandals epic that earned every bit of its glory.
