Overview
Money Heist is a 2017 Spanish heist crime drama television series created by Álex Pina, originally titled La Casa de Papel. The series follows a mysterious mastermind known as "The Professor" (Álvaro Morte), who plans the biggest heist in recorded history: printing billions of euros in the Royal Mint of Spain. The Professor recruits eight criminals, each with a specific skill, and gives them code names based on cities: Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó), Rio (Miguel Herrán), Nairobi (Alba Flores), Berlin (Pedro Alonso), Denver (Jaime Lorente), Moscow (Paco Tous), Helsinki (Darko Perić), and Oslo (Roberto García). The heist takes place over several days, with the team wearing red jumpsuits and Salvador Dalí masks, taking hostages, and printing money while the police try to break in. The series is told through a flashback structure, with Tokyo narrating the events. The first two seasons focus on the Royal Mint heist. The Professor is a genius strategist who has planned every detail, but he falls in love with the police inspector in charge of the case, Raquel Murillo (Itziar Ituño), which complicates everything. The heist is a success, and the team escapes with their money. The third, fourth, and fifth seasons focus on a second heist: the Bank of Spain, where they must steal the country's gold reserves and, more importantly, rescue their teammate Rio, who has been captured by the police. The second heist is more dangerous, more emotional, and more tragic. The series is known for its high tension, its twists and turns, its iconic red jumpsuits and Dalí masks, and its theme song, "Bella Ciao," an Italian anti-fascist song that becomes the show's anthem.
