News of the World
Overview
A Civil War veteran who reads the news town to town ends up escorting a kidnapped girl back to her people across dangerous country. Tom Hanks plays Captain Kidd with his trademark decency, and the young newcomer opposite him is wonderful. It's old-fashioned in the best way — patient, humane, beautifully shot. Paul Greengrass slows down here, and the film is better for it. A quiet gem.
