Passing
Overview
Rebecca Hall's directorial debut adapts Nella Larsen's novel about two Black friends in 1920s Harlem: Irene, living openly, and Clare, secretly passing as white. Shot in shimmering monochrome, it's a chamber piece of glances, envy, and dangerous secrets. Thompson and Negga are extraordinary — entire conversations happen in their eyes. Quiet, devastating, and beautifully controlled. A small film with a long shadow.
