The Royal Hotel
Overview
Two American friends take bar jobs in the Australian outback, and the atmosphere curdles from uneasy to unbearable. Julia Garner is superb at playing women in quietly menacing situations, and director Kitty Green weaponizes every leer and 'joke.' Nothing explodes — the horror is all in what might happen. You'll be tense the entire runtime. A slow burn that earns its dread.
