Overview
Friends is a 1994 sitcom television series created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman for NBC. The series is one of the most popular and beloved sitcoms of all time. The first season follows six friends in their 20s living in Manhattan: Monica Geller (Courteney Cox), a competitive, obsessive chef; Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston), a fashion-conscious, spoiled heiress who has just run away from her wedding; Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow), an eccentric, quirky masseuse; Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc), a sweet, dim-witted actor; Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry), a sarcastic, witty data processor; and Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), a paleontologist who is recently divorced. The first season establishes the characters and their relationships. The season ends with Ross realizing that he is in love with Rachel. Friends was a massive ratings success, and it became a cultural phenomenon. The series won six Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series.
