The Godfather Part II
Overview
The rare sequel that might top the original. Coppola intercuts Michael Corleone's cold consolidation of power with young Vito's rise, and both halves are perfect. De Niro's silent intensity is unreal. It's long, dense, and utterly gripping. If you've only seen the first film, you're missing half the tragedy. Pacino's quiet menace in the later scenes is chilling. Essential cinema, full stop.
