Inglourious Basterds
Overview
Tarantino rewrites World War II and somehow makes it work. The opening farmhouse scene is twenty minutes of pure, unbearable tension — Christoph Waltz earned that Oscar in a single conversation. Brad Pitt's drawling lieutenant and his crew of Nazi-hunters chew scenery gloriously. The ending is pure fantasy, and you'll cheer anyway. This is Tarantino at his most playful and his most precise. A stone-cold classic.
