Joker
Overview
What happens when society keeps kicking a broken man? Joaquin Phoenix's Arthur Fleck is a failed clown-for-hire in a rotting 1981 Gotham, and watching him curdle into the Joker is equal parts mesmerizing and deeply uncomfortable. Phoenix deserved every award. Fair warning: this isn't a fun comic-book movie — it's bleak, brutal, and impossible to shake. Best watched when you're in the mood for something heavy.
