Overview
Outer Banks is a 2020 action-adventure teen drama television series created by Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke for Netflix. The series is set in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, a string of barrier islands. The series follows a group of teenagers, the "Pogues," who are from the working-class "Cut," as they search for a legendary treasure linked to the disappearance of the father of the group's leader, John B. (Chase Stokes). The Pogues include: John B. Routledge (Chase Stokes), the charismatic, adventurous leader; Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline), a wealthy "Kook" who falls in love with John B.; Kiara "Kie" Carrera (Madison Bailey), a Pogues who is friends with both groups; Pope Heyward (Jonathan Daviss), a smart, responsible, and loyal Pogue; and JJ Maybank (Rudy Pankow), a reckless, impulsive, and loyal Pogue. The series is a treasure-hunt adventure, filled with mystery, romance, and danger. The series is influenced by 1980s adventure films like The Goonies and National Treasure. Outer Banks has been a massive success for Netflix, becoming one of its most-watched series. It has been praised for its cast, its setting, and its fun, escapist tone. A fourth season is in production.
