The Promised Land
Overview
Mads Mikkelsen tries to grow potatoes on Denmark's cursed heathland in 1755 while a cruel landowner tries to break him. It's a western wearing period-drama clothes — harsh land, crueler men, one stubborn hero. Arcel directs with a painter's eye for the brutal Danish countryside. The final confrontation earns every minute of slow buildup. Mikkelsen says more with a stare than dialogue ever could.
