Taxi Driver
Overview
New York, 1976. Travis Bickle can't sleep, so he drives a cab through the city's worst hours and decides he's the only one who sees how rotten it all is. De Niro's descent is hypnotic and horrifying in equal measure — "You talkin' to me?" was improvised, by the way. Scorsese's neon-drenched nightmare still feels dangerous fifty years later. Not a fun watch. An essential one.
