There Will Be Blood
Overview
Daniel Day-Lewis doesn't act in this film so much as possess it. As oilman Daniel Plainview, he's a force of pure, terrifying ambition in early-1900s California — charming one minute, monstrous the next. Paul Thomas Anderson directs like every frame is a painting. The final scene is one of the great endings in cinema. Slow, yes. But the kind of slow that gets under your skin and stays there.
