The Danish Girl
Overview
Eddie Redmayne plays Lili Elbe, one of the first people to undergo gender confirmation surgery, in 1920s Copenhagen. Alicia Vikander — who won the Oscar — is extraordinary as the wife watching her husband become someone else entirely. Beautifully shot and gently heartbreaking. A landmark true story, even if the film itself plays things a little too safe.
