Mare of Easttown
Overview
Mare of Easttown is a 2021 crime drama miniseries created by Brad Ingelsby for HBO. The series stars Kate Winslet as Mare Sheehan, a detective in the small, working-class town of Easttown, Pennsylvania. Mare is a brilliant detective, but she is also a deeply flawed, traumatized, and exhausted woman. She is investigating the murder of a teenage mother, Erin McMenamin (Cailee Spaeny), while also dealing with her own family's tragedies: her son died by suicide, she is raising her grandson, and she is estranged from her ex-husband. The series is a slow-burn, atmospheric, and devastating exploration of grief, trauma, and the secrets of a small town. Kate Winslet gives a powerful, raw, and unforgettable performance, winning the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress. The series also stars Evan Peters as Detective Colin Zabel, a young, ambitious detective from the county; Jean Smart as Helen, Mare's sharp-tongued mother; and Julianne Nicholson as Lori, Mare's best friend. Mare of Easttown won four Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Lead Actress for Kate Winslet and Outstanding Supporting Actress for Julianne Nicholson.
